The song that I chose for today is “流淚眼望流淚眼” by Joey Yung. I remember I often listen to this song when I was on the way to uni. The direct English translation of the title is “Crying eyes looking at crying eyes”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins by telling us that the crying eyes are looking at the crying eyes. They talk for ten nights and then for another ten nights. They have talked so much that the eyes are swollen like eggs. Crying eyes likes to get sad together. How difficult, how sad and how to share; if they still cry for things that happened ages ago it would be painful. So let stop crying, then at least they will save a night. If a group of people get together to cry, and take turns to talk about the sadness of getting dump, this is a very sad group. So perhaps they should challenge each other to get over that special someone. Between the crying eyes, the environment seems to get colder, the darkness seems to spread amounts everyone in the room. Crying eyes looking at crying eyes, neither of them wanted to be separated from their partner. They could comfort each other, but they are still lonely. How hard and how sad it is, they wonder how they could keep going. It is bitter, but there will always be an end to any healing process. If sadness become enjoyment, they you would cry for a few more nights. The sadness club is really just for a short transition, it shouldn’t be a long term involvement. So this time, let challenge ourselves to see who can dry our eyes first. But really, we don’t have time to go in a challenge for him. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “可惜我是水瓶座” by Miriam Yeung. This is one of my favourite by Miriam. The direct English translation of the title is “Unfortunately my star sign is Aquarius”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins with the protagonist just telling us that her ex-boyfriend is telling her that he treasure her, but she said she never feel it when they were together. She told him not tell her this standard lines, as these lines are not enough to keep them together. She said he should be very clear why they are breaking apart. No matter how stupid she is, she is still herself. She knows very well who is treating her good and who is treating her bad. She wanted to keep acting stupid, but she knows she can’t last any longer. She is somewhat jealous of those people who are blind by love. So she decided to leave, but please don’t make her cry even though being a Aquarius is easily cried. If the next line from his mouth is good bye, then she rather him to close his mouth. There is no need to see each other again, as it will hurt her even more. If she go back, there wouldn’t be any pain killer for her to use, so please give her a Long Island Ice tea such that she could fall into sleep. No matter it will be 10 years later or now, their love will end and she will be sad, so let cut it off now. She felt that she was the strongest castle, but this castle is actually breaking part by part. No matter how stubborn she is, she would not last, she know she can’t keep pretending to be happy all the time. So she decided to cut off her relationship now. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “XBF” by Fiona Sit. The title is really the shorten form of “ex-boyfriend”. This song is quite old, it came out in 2004, so almost 10 years.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist told us that she never thought her ex-boyfriend was her first one, but she is most worry that he will become her next ex-boyfriend. But right now, she is officially with him. She wishes that he would be the list one on her breakup list as she doesn’t want to be breakup again. But really, it was because she broke up with her last boyfriend to give her the chance to meet him. Back then she thought she know how to love him. She wishes that the one she love the most would be her last one. Even at the end of their relationship, she never thought of giving up, but she was dumped but him, the person that becomes her ex-boyfriend. She got no excuse to stop him from leaving, she know from the beginning that if she got a chance to hold hands with him, one day they will breakup. But at the end, when she counts her ex-boyfriend, she feels that she would be happy even if he were just with her for a short time. She thinks that if meeting him was luck, then perhaps she had used up all her luck already. The song that I chose for today is “戒情人” by Ronald Cheng. This song is quite old, but I like it very much. The direct English translation is “Quit lover”, ‘Quit” here got the same meaning as the ‘quit’ in “quit smoking”. That is trying to quit an addictive thing; in here the thing is lover.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist talking about the love life of his friend. It begin with the protagonist telling us that his friend told him that she recently fallen in love with a guy that love to drink. She is not used to his coldness, but she can’t quit looking at his sad eyes. The protagonist thinks that she just love that she is being loved. She keeps saying that she needs to quit falling in love, but it seems that her soul said otherwise. Taking a sip could let her drunk for a few minute; who ever got her addicted would be the person that will hurt her. When she cry, could her tears really clean her eyes and show her who to trust? People who lose to loneliness are the people who treat themselves bad. Looking into his eyes would in return break her heart. Does getting drunk could really ease the pain? The song for today is “原來你什麼都不要” by A-Mei. This is one of A-Mei’s classic. The direct English translation of the title is “So you didn’t want anything”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begin with the protagonist telling us that she knows it is not good and she understand that he can only give out so many love. But all she could do is to ask for more and more until he run away. A pillow wetted by tears, just dry it, but it seems that her tears in his heart are just a pointless argument. She thought she was behind his back and he would be her pride, but it seems that he didn’t want any of it. She doesn’t want him to protect her, doesn’t want his rose, all she wanted is that he loves her for a long long time. Perhaps this might be pride, or perhaps she is being greedy, but which female is not selfish or jealous about love? She doesn’t want him to promise, doesn’t want him forever, she only wanted him to love her once for real. Perhaps this might be her pride, or perhaps she is being greedy, but she is most worried that he just keeps quiet and uses this as his reply. So she find out that he doesn’t want any of it. The song that I chose for today is “我是一隻小小鳥” by Chief Chao (趙傳). Chief was very famous back in the 90’s and this is one of his most popular songs. The direct English translation of the title is “I am a little bird”.

The lyrics of the song are about life. It begins with the protagonist telling us that he sometime feels that he is a bird, he wanted to fly high but can’t. Perhaps one day when he is resting on a brance, he will become the target of a hunter. When he flies up into the sky, he then realised that he could no one to support him. Every time when it was a quite night, he can’t sleep. He wonders whether he is the only one that his future doesn’t get better than his present. No one knows how the future will be, perhaps happiness is just a legend, something that he will never be able to find. He is a little bird, and he can never fly high. He had been looking for a worm hug, and this requirement shouldn’t be too high. All the people that knows his name, are you all well? The world is so tiny, and there is nowhere for us to run. When he felt that he had felt the good and bad of the world, and when you decided to give it everything to chase after your dream, the pressure in life and the value of life become important. The song that I chose for today is “好得很” by Keeva Mak. I talked about another of her songs yesterday. Yesterday song (不方便的真相) was from 2009, her first album and today song is from her second album which was on sale around 2 months ago. Keeva got such a good voice, and it is unbelievable that she have to wait for 4 years to have her second album, hope she will do better this time around. The direct English translation of the title is “Very well”.

The lyrics of the song are about a girl looking forward to fall in love. It starts by telling us that the protagonist finally feels that she can move on from her previous relationship. She feels that she now understand that getting dump will not affect the weather, and so what’s left in their relationship should not bother him anymore. She had already listened to too many cheering-up songs and got sick of the “not giving up” message. From psychology books, she understands that not happy is not equal to sad. Someone asked her how had she been, she wanted to change her name to get a better life. She have been trained to a stage that she does not regret giving everything but end with a bad result to trade for a hug from him. So who would care anymore, she wanted to be happy, but she feel that she is forcing herself to smile. She just tried to love normally, and love each one more to keep herself happy and away from sadness. She believe that she is great as she see everything as normal and simple, even when it was raining, she can just light up a lamp and treat it like the moon. So now she realised that some type of love is like a hobby, and she understand that these sadness is purely purposely made. She is proud of herself for understanding this. The song that I chose for today is “不方便的真相” by Keeve Mak. This song is one of her most popular song. The direct English translation of the title is “The truth of inconvenient”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins with the protagonist telling us that when she was young, she thought love was simple; before kissing, the other will already take care of her and she thought love was like playing in hot spring and watching a movie that she watched many times. She wished that someone would take her away and fly up high and bring her onto an unforgettable journey. But she realised that love is not like that and this crushes her dream, perhaps she overestimated the beauty of love or maybe she underestimated the number of clowns in the world, so it is inevitable that she is disappointed. So who said that love is beautiful and elegant? She seems to spend all her effort as she just tried to win. Love was pure, but it forces her to see the danger in the world and she was blind by jealousy. Every relationship makes people to learn about how to fight. People hated each other so much that perhaps they are a good match as their hatred is so synchronise. Usually when you too care about the relationship, you will be bullied, so there is no fairness. There is no holiness in love, but we just wanted to take control as that come from our beastliness. It is so disappointing now when she think about love as a grown up. She thinks that love is just a game in mud. Love makes the most innocent people into beast. There are unforgettable moments, but there is also sadness. We would do everything because of our curiosity driven by our crush. The song that I chose for today is “非凡人生” by Stephanie Cheng. This song is quite new, I heard it on the radio the other day and I love it. The direct English translation of the title is “Abnormal life”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It start off with the protagonist tell us that she feel being normal like everyone is not good enough. So she prays to have something special in her life, so that she could be proud of herself. Until that day she meet him and become of him, she prays again as she wishes to be with this guy for the rest of her life. She is now thinking back, thinking that she was so naïve, she gave him her heart and thought that the beautiful time will begin soon, even her friends believe it too. But their sacred wedding was eaten up by temptations, making her afraid to meet other people. So this is her abnormal life? Time after time, her life gives her pain, it is worse than dying. For some reason she will always think of him, and when she does, her tears start to drop. She wonder whether she could get over the scar and reborn, but all she see is him. Perhaps once she feels the pain, there will be something to help her heal, but she knows she had already her price. So is this her abnormal life? She only feel that the pain never go away, who said that losing something in your life make you complete? Could she get over her pain and reborn? She wonders how to hate him in the future as she still smile when she think of their past. But now she is already carrying this heavy burden, she wonder would she be able to give love a second try. 21st Sep 2013 (紙皮箱 – Candy Lo)

The song that I chose for today is “紙皮箱” by Candy Lo. I personally quite like this song. The direct English translation of the title is “Carton box”.

The lyrics of the song are about our past. It begins with the protagonist telling us that one day she was cleaning her room and found this old carton box. This box contain the old her. She found photos of her high school friends, Christmas cards and toys. Seeing these reminded her many minor things about her past, about the people that she loved. All were living in the carton box, waiting for her to visit them again. The time that pasted by, the cities that she visited, now can all be touched by her hands. The people that she hasn’t seen for many years, the songs that she loves in her childhood, it doesn’t matter that the colour had faded away as she wouldn’t lose them. These items had enabled her to visit these experiences once more. The farewell present that her boyfriend gave her, the art piece that she bought in Germany, the train ticket from Kyoto are all in the box. Time had passed without us noticing and she doesn’t want to lose all these minor memories. The dreams that she had, the pains that she had, all are now living in this carton box. She now opened this dusty carton box and thinking about her past; all of these memories can be touch by her hands. Although the colour had faded a bit, but she will not lose them, and they will bring her back in time.

A few days ago I was cleaning my room and this is exactly what I feel. Recently, I don’t know what got into me, but I feel very unhappy all the time, feel very angry at pretty much everything. Partly, I was blaming that on my childhood, I was fill with these unhappy memories. For some reason all I think of was these painful memories in my childhood, how my mum make me study when everyone was playing, how I always not be able to do the stuff that I wanted to do. But when I was cleaning my room, I found all these toys; toys that I haven’t touch for years and I have almost forgot that I got them. Looking at them and touching them, I remember I used to loves these toys and I realised how lucky I was to have all these toys. I found boxes of toys and they are expensive toys even in today standard. Suddenly, the joy hit me, I remember the joyful feeling when I was playing them. I was cleaning my room in hope to get more space and I thought I was going to clean out these toys (which I didn’t expected this many) and gave them to my newborn nephew (although he is too young to play any of them). But now, looking at these toys, I really can’t decide whether I can give it to him as I am so emotionally attached to these toys. Anyways I hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “時間的味道” by Terry Lin. This song came out in 2002. The direct translation of the title is “The flavour of time”.

The lyrics of the song are about thinking of our past. It begins with the protagonist telling us that one day the world seems to be frozen and it had gone back to the time when he first got his baseball glove, his first girlfriend’s cat and the time when he still looking for treasures in a local grocery store. Back then he always look forwards to becoming an adult. Now he understood the freedom of his childhood, but now he got no way of going back in time. Memories are the movie ticket of life. Love, is the exclamation mark in our heart. Age is the letter opener of the truth, and time got it flavour as well. Going back to his primary school, kids are happily running on the basketball court. He found the marbles and his school bag, but he can’t find the tunnel that brings him back to his childhood. Hope you will enjoy the song.

The song that I chose for today is “幸而” by Myolie Wu (胡杏兒). This was a theme song for a TV drama. Personally I quite like this song. The direct English translation of the title is “Fortunate”. Note that the word “幸而” pronounce the same as “杏兒” (Myolie’s Chinese name). I think this was done on purpose, as (from memory) this was Myolie’s first song.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins with the protagonist telling us that day when their bodies were getting close, they love each other deeply. But if he had heard her heart, she wonders whether he would change his mind. She learns a lesson from this and she didn’t hate him, but she wanted to know why she is still crying and can’t sleep at night. There is no need for the sky to get darker, as this is her destiny. Back then he made an effort to put down their difference in their background to begin their love. She wanted to know why people said that they don’t match. After all these years they are still waiting for each other. If she hasn’t put away their love, she feels that she can’t fall in love again. So even though they are apart, but she can still make a record of it. That day they were sad, but even until today she is still hurt by the breakup. She didn’t wished to be broke up, but lucky she had love. She realised that because their love was so colourful, so that she still remember this relationship. If she can’t conquer him, she wishes that he would take some time off to meet up with her even he might already have a new girlfriend. She knows that she should have pull herself back and fall back to sleep, but she doesn’t know why her tears are keep dropping from her eyes. Her dry heart is already broken, so she can’t sleep. Her can’t live with the fact that she let her perfect match go, so it is already determined that they will never be together again. But every time she thinks of him she will cry. Perhaps she should have keep going with their relationship back then because she knows that she was a bit happy. But she cared too much about what he was thinking. She knows that if their love is still there, they would remember this for life, but sadly, this love never existed. Hope you like the song.

The lyrics are very simple and they are about love. It begins with the protagonist telling us that he love this girl. There is no reason why he love her, he just does. He loves her since the day he first saw her. He asked whether she knows he is waiting for her. If she really cared for him, she wouldn’t have let him go through so many lonely nights nor let the flowers in his hand got blow away by the wind. The song that I chose for today is “急流勇退” by Sam Hui. This song is so old, it comes out when I was still a kid, going to kindergarten (or perhaps even before that, it has been so long). But I remember I love this song and I sing it a lot without knowing its meaning. The direct English translation of the title is “Retreating from the jet steam”. This is an old Chinese saying, meaning that we are at the top or peak of our achievement (career or anything else) and we decided to pull ourselves away from it. The lyrics of the song are exactly about that and this song was written by Sam himself for leaving his singing career.

I guess the lyrics describe Sam’s feeling and his reasons for leaving his singing career. It begins by telling us that everyone wanted to be famous, but who knows, all of a sudden he wanted to enjoy his freedom. So let’s keep this glory, stop waiting from today and retreat from this jet steam. Chasing after fame will always lead to fights and argument. He felt that he had been through the goods and bads in the entertainment industry. Once you have reached the peak, there will be one day you will fall. So worrying this career fall makes him feel tired. He doesn’t hope for a long lasting glory as long as he had once own it. Today he feels that it is enough, so it is time for him to leave. The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins by asking us what we learn in the crazy world. If a friend of ours lost contact, what will happen to his family? If we regret, what will we get, could we go back to the beginning? The protagonist is feeling sad and he wonders how she feels tonight. The song that I chose for today is “難得有情人” by Shirley Kwan. This is one of Shirley’s most popular songs. It was a theme song for a TV drama in the 80s. While theme songs for TV dramas don’t have such a big impact these days, back in the 80s and 90s, they were like gold. It was highly likely that the singer who sung a TV drama theme song will get popular. This was because TV was pretty much the only kind of family entertainment that was readily available and affordable, making it the best way to advertise or to make anything well known. The direct English translation of the title is “Rare to have a lover”.

The lyrics are about love. It tells us that it was like waking up in a spring morning that touches her heart. She can’t wait any longer. People’s lives crosses over and they share their loves. It was sweet to run with our love one in the wind, and yell out that we love each other and enjoy our life. You said ‘I do’ and I said ‘I do’, there will be no regrets in our love. The moon and the fog makes it seems that all the couples love each other more than usual. The song that I decided to talk about today is “幼稚完” by Raymond Lam. This song was requested by one of the fellow reader of this blog (see “29th Mar 2012 (單車-Eason Chan)”). It has taken me some time to decide whether I should talk about this song as I am not a big fan of Raymond. This song was a song from last year and it was a theme song of a TV drama. The direct English translation of the title is “Finish being childish”, note that the title is playing with words. The title pronounces as “kindergarten”, so potentially having double meaning in the title.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins with the protagonist telling us that he knows him and her can’t go back to the time when they still deeply love each other. Time has passed and everyone will have to growth up, but all the paths goes in different directions. Since then they separated, while she make her way forward, he childishly remain in the same place. Times make him think more of his past. He wonders whether she is happy or perhaps she is very busy. He wonders whether she is still serious all the time. Perhaps she got a new boyfriend, a mature partner, so mature that he doesn’t argue with you. It is that the protagonist is resisting to growth up? He is still thinking about their past, still naïve enough to think of her. Now he is has moved into a new home, but she still kept their old sofa. Perhaps she knows that when he falls, he likes to think of her, and also think of her when he is tired. He is still questing whether he is resisting to growth up. Hasn’t he learnt how to pretend to be happy? Time flies and he is already grownup, but he see people being stupid, so stupid that he wanted to cry. It is such a crazy world. So please let me finish being so naïve, so that he could get what he wished for, to meet her again. If there is a time machine in front of him, he wonders whether he could be naïve once more. 13th Sep 2013 (似夢迷離 – George Lam)

The song that I chose for today is “似夢迷離” by George Lam. This is one of my all-time favourite songs. The direct English translation of the title is “As burred as a dream”. I think this was a theme song of a movie.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It tells us that love always have flaws. If we love each other deeply, then there will be a time that we are forced to be separated and there is no way to escape this destiny. After we separated, we might meet again, as burred as a dream. If we can choose, perhaps we wish that the time can be frozen and give us some time to think through this. We had tried to be together, but it is so difficult to not get separated. Even until now, we still don’t know whether our story is sweet or bitter. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “哭泣瑪利” by Karen Tong. Karen was once quite popular and this song is one of her signature songs. The direct English translation of the title is “Crying Mary”.

The lyrics of the song are about a girl call Mary. It told us that she used to be elegant, but ever since she had been deeply hurt by love, no one cares about her anymore. Many men fall for her but she chose the worse of them all. He treated her very bad and she cried every night. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “情人甲” by Andy Hui. This song came out a few months ago, but the newer version with Janice Vidal just came out and I think it sounds great. The direct English translation of the title is “Lover A”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It tells us that we might fall in love many times in our life. But no one knows which time they will be the protagonist of the relationship. We might be lucky to be the protagonist this time, but we must have meet many other lover that now play no role in our life. It is unavoidable to act as ‘Lover A’ in our life, and our main duty was to bring her to the next person. We might act as ‘Lover A’ many times, but this process help us growth and become the person that we are today. Winning or losing does not depends on thing happened this instant but for the life. If a person is lucky now, there is no need to ask what had happened before, to dig up his past. So all the wrong person that we meet is to lead up to the right person that we meet at the end.
