15th July 2014 (幻影 – Alan Tam)

The song for today is “幻影” by Alan Tam. I can’t believe I haven’t talked about this song after running this blog for so long. This is one of my favourite, and it always come up in my head. This is one of Alan’s classic and it was also a theme song for a movie back in the 80’s. The direct English translation of the title is “Phantom”.

The lyrics of the song are about a love story between a man and a ghost. At the start of the song, the protagonist doesn’t know how to describe this relationship, but he wanted to write a poem about her. He is speaking nonsense and thinking so hard, but still hasn’t thought of the perfect words that could describe her. If he could touch the image in the mirror, then at least he might have been able to it. That little purple box, it contains many unfinished things. The bright and clear, represent love. It secretly shining, making it very eyes catching. This love is like an illusion, it will disappeared one day. But that phantom is reappearing in his heart again. How did he start to get contact with this love, it feels like that he knows it would be hard. In his dreams and memories, he is searching for her. She is creating love ripple in his heart. But she didn’t stay for him to catch or get a hold of her. This illusion like love is staying in his heart; giving him warm at every cold night. This illusion like love is staying in his heart, allowing him to hug her every night. Hope you will like the song as much as I do.
