Today’s song is “祝福” by Sally Yip. Sally was quite popular in the 80’s and 90’s, she is the wife of George Lam. The direct English translation of the title is “Wishes”, but this translation is not the best, but it is the best word that I can think of to describe it. In this song the wishes that it is referring to is when someone is leaving, you wish them good luck, it is not referring to something like birthday wishes. This is one of the popular song from Sally and it is also one of my favourite songs.

The lyrics are basically as title, wishing some well. It spent almost half the song describing a beautiful scenery. The description of the scenery make you feel peaceful, then it talks about the past, how the protagonist’s friend had affected her feeling (either good or bad), but everything is over now and she wishes her friend all the best. There is a sense that the protagonist will never see her friend again, so this song was use on TV show quite often when someone passed away or immigrated to another country (because back then there were no internet, so communication was hard. Letter and phone were the only ways, but letter takes a while to reply and phone calls are expensive.)I hope you will enjoy this song.
