A Song a day: 6th July 2012 (只要為我愛一天

Today’s song is “只要為我愛一天” by Leon Lai. Leon was considered as one of the Four King of Canton Pop, alongside with Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok and Andy Lau. This song is one of my favourites from Leon. The English translation of the title is “Only if you love me for a day”.

This song was a song for an TV ad. That ad was big, it was for Hutchison Telecom (the mother company of 3 Telecommunication nowadays, but it used to operate as Hutchison back in the days). Back then Hutchison was in “war” with a few others company, fighting for the telecommunication market. They were the first of these company that used singing star for TV ads. It was a big success, as the idea was very fresh back then. Instead of hard selling a phone or service, they make a mini movie, then cut this up into 3 or 4 parts and show it on TV as ads. For the later ones, they even interact with customers, they would show a phone number at the end of the ad along with options, so people can call in and chose which path they want the protagonist to go. I guess it was because of these ads, I love this song so much.

The lyrics of the song are simple. It is just about the protagonist had done so much for a girl, but the girl shows nothing in return. So he wishes that the girl can step in his shoes for a day to understand his feeling.
