A Song a day: 8th July 2012 (風再起時

The song that I chose for today is “風再起時” by Leslie Cheung. This song came out in 1989, the year Leslie announce that he will retire from the music industry (note that later on in 1995 he decided to go back into the industry and sing again). The direct English translation of the title is “When the wind blows again”.

Looking at the lyrics, I think this song was written especially for his retirement. In the lyrics, it said looking back to his past, he seems to feel that his life had no colour, he was lost, and it sounds like everyone was laughing at him. At he feel ok because he had sung his favourite song, so there is no need to fight for more. He don’t want to calculate the gain or loss from his past, he wanted to let go. It said, even he had now said goodbye, but he can still feel hiss fans say thank you to him, and it would still bring him a warm feeling. He hope that his fans can let him go, he will use this song to say goodbye, and wishes that they could meet again someday. From the lyrics, I think Leslie never though he will step back in the music industry again, I am not sure why he did, but I was glad that he sung again. Leslie committed suicide in 2003. His manager said that he was expression depression, and that was probably the cause of his suicide act. Although Leslie had left us, but his songs will remain with us forever.
