The
song for today is “放生” by Jade Kwan. This song keeps coming
up in my head today, so I decided to talk about it here today. It was released
in 2003. The title of this song is a bit hard to translate, “放生” is
an action related to Buddhism, it is the action of people releasing animal back
to the wild in order to gain some merit. These action though, in modern days,
lead to some problem, as there are people buying animals to be released,
causing more animal to be caught. Sometime people released animal back to the
wrong environment, like releasing a fish that live in a lake to the sea.
Anyway, the title of the song could be translated to “released”.
The lyrics
of the song are about the protagonist trying to release her boyfriend back to
the wild. She said that perhaps his passion had die off and he wanted to leave.
He didn’t seems to like to talk on the phone with her anymore. Perhaps the old
promise is true, but he couldn’t stand being board, but he still remember that
they when they were surrounded by flowers. They hang around each other, if they
are not dead, they would be tired. So perhaps it is better for them to end it.
Just to live up to the promise, turning their date feel like a volunteering
job, she doesn’t want him to pity her. Go, just like migratory birds, she never
hopes that he will return one day. Freedom in exchange of break up, he really
believe that it is worth it? She loves him so much that she is willing to release
him back to the wild, as there is no need for him to complain when she is with
him. She feels ashamed, and doesn’t want to force him anymore. Does he really
want her to face him and try to get him to stay by saying that she wanted to
die? Let just say that she fallen in love with the wrong guy, and let just release
him back to the wild, so that he wouldn’t have so much anger in his words. She
will let her hands off, and will not bear with him, as she understand that
letting him go will also relieve herself. Hope you will like the song.
