The song for today is “必殺技” by Leo Ku. This song was included in Leo’s “遊戲 基” album. The album names plays with words, “遊戲” meaning games and “基” corresponds to Leo’s Chinese name. Though if you read it together, it pronounced the same as “遊戲機” meaning “Game console”. The song, “必殺技” was the one of the songs that got sent out for promotion, it was also very popular. This album was the album that Leo decided to make a comeback to Hong Kong music industry and he was very successful. The direct English translation of the title of the song is “Fatal blow”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “You again got spare time, and I am in protective mode so don’t make your move. The song that I chose for today is “是有種人” by Denise Ho. This is Denise’s newest song and it was released only a few days ago. I chose this song because I think Denise is a person that we need to respect and support. Because she spook up for the student and protesters in Hong Kong last year during the umbrella revolution and the action that she took, it is said that she have been banned from performing in China. I guess partly because of that, she decided to be an independent singer now, to not be tight down by any restrain. But at the same time she is no longer supported financially by big music companies. I fully respect her courage, as it is very rare for any of this generation singers to stand up and voice out for their believes even knowing that doing so would damage their career. To me she had really taken up the mantle of her teacher, Anita Mui. As an independent singer now, she is trying to find new ways for Hong Kong music, so that the Hong Kong musicians and singers don’t need to rely on the China market so much and can gain more freedom in music choice. I would like to pay my tribute to her for solely taking up such a big task and big risk so I decided to talk about this song here today to let more people know about her and her newest song :) The direct English translation of the title is “There is a type of people”.

The lyrics of the song are about endorsing diversity in our society and don’t be let down even if we are viewed as the inferior type. It said: “Beauty is not only produced by the world that consist of a bit of everything. Without sky ladder, there are still people from earth that will farm. I mentioned this song the other day when I talked about Ivana’s “好時辰”, but didn’t realised that I haven’t talked about this song on this blog :p So here it is. As it got the same title as Ivana’s song, the title in English is the same, “Good time”.

The lyrics of the song are also about love. The protagonist said: “The silver tree and golden light are still beautiful. Still celebrating through to the morning. This song was originally sung by Gigi Lai, but I choose to talk about Alice’s version because Gigi’s version wasn’t really that popular, and Alice’s version was what made this song popular. Alice’s version is very different to Gigi’s version, it got a completely different arrangement and tempo. In recently years, Eric Zau (鄒旻諾, I am not sure whether I spell his surname correctly in English), a contestant and the winner off TVB singing competition took another spin on the song, giving it another arrangement and tempo that I think is very nice, making this song rather ageless. The direct English translation of the title is “You are all for love”. (Note that this song sometime is call “你你你為了愛情”, probably because this line repeats many times throughout the song, though this title is generally associated more to Alice’s version).

The lyrics of the song are very simple and it is about love. It said: “You, you, you are all for love, so tonight is not quite. You, you, you are all for love, lonelily gazing at the stars. You, you, you are all for love, but no one respond to your call. Relationship and love, how to chase, put them all to the back of your head. Under the light and through the colour of wind, no matter how broken your heart is, no need to care too much as love will always end. The song for today is “好時辰” by Ivana Wong. The direct English of the title is “Good time”. Although this song got the same title as Gigi’s “好時辰”, but they are two completely songs.

The lyrics of the song are about love. As stated at the beginning of the music video, it is to summarise three years of relationship into 5 minutes. The protagonist said: “From yesterday, how many people have changed from new lover to ex-lover? Haven’t got the chance to know you, all I know was to waste time. If you have been following this blog for a while, you might have notice that I have been trying to look for a job. Today I received a call that bring me some good news, I have got an offer :D While the job is not exactly what I have in mind (I was hoping for a role that is not so similar to what I have done in the past as I wanted to experience different things), this job will be a good start for me as it is an offer from one of the leading organisations in my country. Although it is a temporary role, but let’s hopes that I will offer an extension at the end of the contract. At least this job can put a price on me and give me more experience, which will hopefully make it easier to search for other jobs when this job ended.

What I learned through this period is that there are many things that we can’t control. We can try our best to try to achieve it, but if it is not at the right time, right place with the right people, it will probably not happen. Many of these are things that we couldn’t see through, it is all fate. Which lead to the song that I chose for today “一命,二運,三風水” by Swing. I chose this song mostly because of its title. In English the title is “One fate, two luck, three Feng Shui”. The title is actually part of an old Chinese saying “一命二運三風水四積陰德五讀書” (in fact this is just the first sentence, it goes all the way to 15), meaning that there are many factors in life, and it number these factors from most important to the lease influencing. One is fate, it determine things like how and where you were born. Two is luck, it determines things like the important people that you can meet. Three is Feng Shui, which is a very Chinese thing, basically describing how your surrounding environment could affect you mentally. Four is about how you treat people, if you be nice to others, others will be nice to you. Five is study, so it highlight the important of knowledge and morality. I am not going to talk through all 15 as that will be off topic (beside, the whole concept is quite complicated, I don’t fully understand it myself :p ).

Anyway, back to the song. The lyrics of the song are about fate, it tell us that if we don’t worry too much or want too much, things will work out alright naturally, so we don’t need to worry too much. As Swing consist of two members (Jerald and Eric), I will indicate Jerald’s line by “J:”, Eric’s by “E:” and when they sing together “S:” (for Swing). J: If open your palm, things that happened will all be pre-organised with ups and downs, good and bad. Eat, place to stay and life should all be enough. Open your palms, if you are not too greedy or too harsh, open your palms and you should get what you want. E: Let the master to organise the furniture. East and west, organise everything in my future. (The concept of reorganising furniture to get better luck is part of the concept of Feng Shui). So touching, if danger arrived, only need to change the direction. S: Really, I am not worry, so I don’t need to worry about how to avoid the next cloudy day. I had been busy yesterday so I didn’t manage to write a post yesterday. For today the song I chose is “羅生門” by Juno Mak and Kay Tse. This is Juno’s newest song and it is the last episode of the trilogy, it continue from the story set up by “耿耿於懷” (a song that is more than 10 years old) and “念念不忘” (which was released earlier this year). Differ to the two previous parts, which were looking at the relationship from the perspective of male, “羅生門” look at the current state of the relationship from the perspective of female, telling us how she view this relationship. The title is of the song is “Rashomon”, which is the title of a famous Japanese movie in the 50’s. While I haven’t watched “羅生門”, I have heard of this phase many times. Ever since the movie, the title of the move become a common Chinese phase, which it described a scenario where there are two version of a story, both contradict each other but both make sense, and we don’t know which one is the truth. This phase got this meaning because the movie basically was a scenario like this.

From the title, I guess it already hinted that the version from the female protagonist is completely different to what had been described in the two previous songs. Since this is a duet, I will represent Juno’s lines with “J:”, Kay’s with “K:” and together “T:”. J: If you still haven’t found this ridiculous, holding the hand of the man who rumours to be crazy. K: Very thankful, you loved me for ten years and still haven’t stopped. Recently, our old classmate told me that I was still in your heart for more than 600 weeks. Sadly, we couldn’t be together for life. But if I told you the truth, then perhaps you will get hurt. I loved hello kitty? I think not. Dickens, is that a comic? Or is this a misunderstanding of a girl? Perhaps you were crazy about me so I have become perfect in your eyes, but really, do you really know me? Those touching moment, it doesn’t always need to be revisited. If it could provide warm to help you get over the coldest days, then keep it in that room. The most touching moment, not necessary need to last. It is hard to forget, all because you keep thinking about it. It is easy to hold onto someone for ten years, but hard to let go. Truthfully, I don’t think it was a waste that we had that relationship. If I meet you on the street I would ask about how you have been. But the facebook that you update every day is pointless to follow. If you want to feel good after breakup, first you shouldn’t keep thinking of the past. Look at a better place and absorb the sunlight for the next relationship. Those touching moment, it doesn’t always need to be revisited.
