The song for today is “都是你的錯” by Kelly Chan and Ronald Cheng. This song is the Cantonese cover version of Phil Chang’s (張宇) “月亮惹的禍”. I will focus on the duet version here, there is also a solo version by Kelly, the lyrics of that are slightly different to the duet version. The direct English translation of the title is “All your fault”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. As it is a duet song, I will label Kelly’s lyrics with F:, Ronald’s by M: and when they sing together, T:. F: All your fault, even carrying is wrong. The song for today is “求你講清楚” by David Lui. I only heard this song for the first time a few days ago and I like it. It is the Chinese cover version of “Nothing’s gonna change my love for you” by Glen Medeiros. The direct English translation of the Chinese title is “Beg you to be clear”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It said, looking at every day, every night, every month, and the protagonist would suddenly feel down. He doesn’t know why, endure gives him pain. In a clam, still, cold environment, it is like a large wave in the sea, he has lost control of his ship. He still thinks of her, and wishes that she would remember him. Punish him, forgive him, being silence will give him more pain. This minute, he can’t just sit there; he wanted to let all the depressing words out of his mouth. He and her were deeply in love, but why she gave up on him? This minute, he can’t just sit there; he wanted to clear it up over the phone, tell him that she was playing him all along, so that she can say she loves him but yet forget him. The song for today is “給自己的情書” by Faye Wong. Yesterday I talked about “笑忘書” by Hins, and I mentioned that Faye also got a song with the same name. Faye’s “笑忘書” is actually the mandarin version of “給自己的情書”, so instead of talking about Faye’s “笑忘書”, I decided to talk about “給自己的情書”. The direct English translation of the title is “Love letter to myself”. This song was from year 2000, and it was one of the songs that they sent to radio and TV stations for promotion of the album.

The lyrics of the song are about valuing yourself. It said: please don’t be disappointed, as there would be someone that is jealous about you. You hoped for too much, so you lowered yourself. Please don’t get lost too early on, as there are many places to travel to. Please remember that your hair and skin will always celebrate with you. Lalala, comforting yourself, focus to memorise the happy things. Lalala, love yourself, is the truth that you could easily picked up from the ground. Writing this elegant love letter, using my own words to write this golden book. If you don’t even love yourself, how could you love others, how could you gives to your love one? This heavy love letter, is like a big strong tree at the front door on a quiet night. Without his support, then rain wouldn’t get onto you. Please don’t be sad, I will treat you as my idol. If you want other to pity love to you, please install a first aid box. No matter what you do, please don’t think about how other will praise you. You need to be strong all the way, then think about for others. Let go of the toys in your hands, then you would know how to have a good sleep. The song that I chose for today is “笑忘書” by Hins Cheung. This song was in Hins’s first album, which came out in 2006. This song was quite popular back then. Faye Wong got a song that share the same name which was also a big hit, but today I will only talk about Hins’s. Note that they are two different songs, they just happened to share the same name. The direct English translation of the title is “Laugh forget book”.

The lyrics of the song are about life, it try to tell us about what happiness is, question why happiness is harder to get as we grow up. It said, we need to carry our burden and then jump down the Grand Canyon. Troubles will catch you with a net, or is that you who can’t let it go. The dream that you had last night, it ended tonight. Going down, rains fall on your head without rainbow, but you are still carrying your memories, like a very heavy rock. Granted the same amount of happiness, and both got sadness. It is hard to keep fairy tale books from getting disappointment. Both experienced ups and downs, and both fallen into the grey net (here grey net means the bad side of things), annoyance, addiction, torments, why bother talk about it. I experienced happiness turned loneliness. I experienced lacking to fulfilling. Games, even if it was joyful but it wouldn’t bring you happiness. As we get old, we even wanted to cry when we are happy. I need to keep living; I need to keep fighting. Keep going, perhaps even god wouldn’t be able to help. The road ahead got left and right, and when facing choices, it is hard to decide. Got the same hope and both got their own problem. Cotton candy had once brought us to the happy haven. Experienced the same fall, but would you learn to let go? Fairy tales, love letters, testament, search for the answer. Once, once, remember the lollipop that you had when you were 3 years old. The song that I chose for today is “洗澡” by Mag Lam. The direct English translation of the title is “Wash”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, but in a somewhat psychotic way. The protagonist said that her hands and legs feel numb and she is using the air that she got left to isolate herself at home. It had been three days since her stomach hurt, and she watched a crow to fall in love with bread. It had been sevens since she lost contact, and it is time for her to call the ambulance but she lost her phone. She is happy because you are decadent, just stay in the bath tub and don’t climb up. It had been a thousand days since she washed herself as she was too focus to become his disciple. Her memories could be dirty, but they carry love. Dirty love sign, and the crying eyelashes, so smelly that makes people wanted to throw up, and can’t complain. Too lazy to comb the tangled up hairs, without him she lack the energy to fix it. Too lazy to clean the rubbish, now they become her best friend. Too lazy to cut her nails, they are so sharp that they will soon be able to cut her. The dead roses sitting in the vase is pointlessly sucking up the poison gas that he left behind. There is nothing that she wanted to do now, and she got no emotion as well. No pride, no feelings, trapping her to the dungeon. It is the 1000th days she hasn’t washed herself and she is like a witch. Her memories could be dirty, but they carry love. The song that I chose for today is “原來只要為你活一天” by Kit Chan. This was a song from Jacky’s musical “雪狼湖” (“Snow wolf lake”). This musical was very popular back in the 90’s, as very much all the songs from the musical were big hit. The direct English translation of the title is “So I only need to live for you for one day”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that she already knew that knowing him would be a defect. Perhaps it was fate that leads them together, but it couldn’t be. She wanted to love even though that might mean she will sacrifice herself. So she only needed to live with him for one day, and she will forget everything else in the world. So everything in the world would change, but waiting for him for half of her life and he wouldn’t change. She wishes that she could live with him for a day and discovered everything about him. She wishes that he will see it one day, that the she who give him real love will not regret, for every day. Hope you will like the song.

The song for today is “心仍是冷” by Anita Mui and Anthony Lun. This song was very popular in the 90’s, it was a theme song for a TV drama. The direct English translation of the title is “Heart is still cold”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, how the protagonists had been through many different relationships and still haven’t found the right person. The lyrics sung by Anita will be shown by F: and Anthony will be M:, and when they sing together, T:. A: Seeing it through, my heart already got used to it without sigh. Sneers get dispersed, covering the brightness in her dream. Relationship is just like cold rain, very repetitive, making me often experience separation. M: Have been loved and had been through pain, because disappointments love to hug me. Hidden arrows all shotted at me, making me sitting by myself. Not many lover accompany me we I grow up. Love likes to make fun of me, making me keep falling and hard to keep up. T: I still care for you, but it kills me when at the end the love will get transfer to someone else. The song for today is “你知道我在等你嗎” by Anthony Lun (倫永亮). If you have been following my post, you might noticed that I have already talked about this song (18th Sep 2013 (你知道我在等你嗎 –Jeremy Chang)). However, that version is the original Mandarin version, only until today I realised that there is a Cantonese version sung by Anthony. Perhaps many are not familiar with Anthony, he was quite popular back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He is still active now, but not singing, but rather acts as a song writer and producer, and he is very successful at this two roles. The direct English translation of the title is “You know I am waiting for you”.

Like the original version, the lyrics of the song area bout love. The protagonist said that he hasn’t wipe his wet eyes; the love is burry but real. In this long night, he doesn’t know where to go. In this lonely night, he is so sad and still thinks of his love. He still got so many things that he wanted to say to her, but there is no one for him to speak to. You know I am waiting for you? Accompanying by a dim moon; the forever long chasing of these memories should bring him to the end of the world. You know that I am waiting for you? If she heard the wind blow, would she be alone staring at her empty room during her sleepless night? The memories bring out tears, and she had moved away from people, would she be in a similar situation as him tonight? Hope you will like this version of the song.

The song for today is “一起走過的日子” by Andy Lau. This is Andy’s classic, a song that can represent him for 90’s period. This song was so popular back then. The direct English translation of the title is “The days when we were together”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist doesn’t know how to face their memories, as she is gone leaving him alone, he doesn’t know how to let her know about his thought. No one ever understands him, and she was the only one that gave him a good time. When they are together, it means love, life, dead and friendship. He is willing to do anything just for her. The song for today is “堆積情感” by Cally Kwong. This song was from 1986 and it was requested by a fellow reader of the blog. The direct English translation of the title is “Accumulated emotions”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that she can’t resist love as she still dream of him. She accumulates every bit of love when she misses him. She wanted to let him know that love is like rain, it is out of her control. Love will remain in her heart and that she wanted to wanton. She wanted to ask him not to change his love toward her, as she is willing to give him everything. She accumulates every bit of love when she misses him. Who would have thought that their love wouldn’t be able to continue, getting her sad every day. She cries at the rain over the long lonely night. Loving softly, accumulating to the future, but fail to love deeper. Loving softly, staring into the stars, the stain from her tears on the corner of her eyes will always carry love. She can’t resist love as she still dream of him. She accumulates every bit of love when she misses him. The song that I chose for today is “如果一世得不到” by Aaron Kwok. It was a song from 1995, a theme song of a movie. The direct English translation of the title is “If I will never get it in my life”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said if they continue their love, it would bring more sadness. Because they love each other, so they have to be separated. This theory will never change. The person accompanied you will never be the one you love the most. If breaking up now will freeze the best moment, then he is willing to breakup even though he is not happy with the decision. If he will never get her in his life, then it would get him to dream of her more. So ending like this perhaps is the best. Getting old in a normal way is painful, so ending like this perhaps is the best. In his memories, she will never age. Remember the best moment. Because we don’t have enough, so we treasured. Remember the most painful, as you still haven’t let it go. Because he missed it, he wishes that when she feels lonely, she could think about the time when they were deeply in love. The song that I chose for today is “Lonely” by Grasshopper. This is one of Grasshopper’s classic songs. The song came out in 1991 and it was a big hit. This song is the Chinese cover version of a Japanese song called “濡れた髪のLonely” by池田聡.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said “Lonely! Is Lonely the only thing left on Earth? In this sold distance world, it is impossible to chase after that girl again. Didn’t stop lonely, so when I got bored, I got lonely. In my half dreamy state, I woke you up, because without you my life would be meaningless. It is like being trapped behind a thousand walls, bumping into them a thousand or millions times, but every time I was disappointed. The song I chose for today is “快樂很我們” by at17. The direct English translation of the title is “Happy is so us”.

The lyrics of the song are about happiness. The protagonist said “I am still happy, even when sadness is too great causing youth to wear away. The song for today is “其實心裡有沒有我” by Sammi Cheng and Andy Hui, a song from 1991. This is a request from a reader of this blog. This song is very interesting as it mark the start of the relation between Sammi and Andy, after this song their relationship started to surface. Although they broke up for a few years, they are now back together and surprisingly their relationship have always been accepted by most of their fans (this is quite rare I think especially in the 80’s and 90’s when most fans see their idols as their partner). The direct English translation of the title is “Am I really in your heart”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, this song is a bit tricky to translate as half of the time the two sing together but with different lyrics, so hopefully I can still capture the meaning of the song. I am going to mark Andy’s lyrics by “M”, Sammi’s by “F” and when they sing together “T”. M: If I fall in love with you how could I hide; dreamed about your smile. 17th July 2014 (神話.情話 – Emil Chau & Chyi Yu)

The song that I chose for today is “神話.情話” by Emil Chau and Chyi Yu (the older sister of Chyi Chin, more on Chyi Chin see: 16th Jul 2013 (外面的世界 – Chyi Chin)). This song was a theme song of a famous TV drama. The direct English translation of the title is “Legends. Love words”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It said, love is happiness, sadness, revel, emotion or perhaps become legend in the future. Love is an agreement, habit, time, white hair and it also make us scare and happy at the same time. Total forget about ourselves, but we can still promise each other for life. In the future if someone asked, we both would fleet to the high sky. Love is smile, is crazy laugh, is stupid laugh, is joke or perhaps it exist because we scare about lonely. Love is what price, for what reason, at what place, and what causes it to give warm to this world. Who would still ask for more, as there is a dramatic ending. Who could bear the ending, as they would search for each other regardless what happened. Ar, when we are together, fire would arrive in the snow. Love is burry and it was there at the very beginning; this romantic old story. Love is messy, last life, this life or the next life, we wouldn’t know even if we missed out. Falling into the mortal world, no matter where we go we will be together as life would be meaningless if we live alone. Love is fore and back, always tangle together til the end of this life when we will never be apart. Hope you will like the song.
