31st Aug 2014 (哭泣遊戲 – Sammi Cheng)

The song for today is “哭泣遊戲” by Sammi Cheng. This song was from 1998. The direct English translation of the title is “Crying game”.

This song is about love. Through the lyrics the protagonist said “You have already forgotten how to make me happy. You actually don’t really care, otherwise why wouldn’t you have noticed that I cry at night. Why in your thought, you never care about what I need. It was very beautiful and magical in the past, but now the romance had melt. Everything had changed, and I couldn’t laugh for 1 more second. I wish to use all the tears in my life to exchange for some laughter and hope. I wanted to use all my tears to exchange for some hope. My eyes are tired and I am now used to crying. There is no need for my lover to explain. It’s a crying game. It’s a crying game. You have already forgotten how to make me happy. You actually don’t really care, otherwise why wouldn’t you have noticed that I cry at night. Why in your thought, you never care about what I need. It was very beautiful and magical in the past, but now the romance had melt. Everything had changed and I couldn’t forget. It’s a crying game, wooo just a crying game.” Hope you will like the song.

30th Aug 2014 (Happy Girl – Kelly Chan)

The song today is “Happy Girl” by Kelly Chan. This song wasn’t the plug songs of the album, but I personally quite like it. It was a song Kelly requested for her father.

The lyrics of the song area bout Kelly’s image in her father mind. The protagonist of the song said “It is hard to explain this person in my heart, he is always proud of me. No matter how heavy the sky is he will support it, just like when I was a kid. In the past, you always leave home early and come home late; I didn’t understand and it felt like that we were not connected. Today you are clapping for me, being happy for me, comforting by happy tears. Good father, time flies. The little girl stays happy even after a few years old. You never said a word, but I know that I am the most important for you. Good father always understand me. If I didn’t know how to be grateful, please forgive me. A day, a year, like how friends treasure me; it is hard work for life and all you wanted was for me to be happy. My heart never felt empty, as you gave me everything. That day when I go to school alone and learn about separation, I would remember. In the past, you always leave home early and come home late; I didn’t understand and it felt like that we were not connected. Today you are clapping for me, crying for me, it is more precious than diamond. Good father always understand me. If I didn’t know how to be grateful, please forgive me. A day, a year, like how friends treasure me; it is hard work for life and all you wanted was for me to be happy.” Hope you will like the song.

29th Aug 2014 (活得比你好 – Amanda Lee)

The song for today is “活得比你好” by Amanda Lee. From memory this song was quite famous back at the time when it was released. The direct English translation of the title is “Live better than you”.

The lyrics of the song area bout love. The protagonist said “Since that year, when you left me, made me underestimated myself, lowered my self-esteem.  It was that year, I let myself go, destroy my body for you, destroy my soul. Fallen to the darken point, I suddenly understand, I wasted my life but I haven’t made you care about me. I must cheer up tomorrow and pretend that this relationship never happened. Then after that, I will live better than you a bit. So that when you see me again today, you would realised that leaving me behind that day is your lost. Only a few years had passed, the me in front of you is living better than you”. Hope you will like the song.

28th Aug 2014 (我的親愛 – Leon Lai/もう恋なんてしない – Noriyuki Makihara (槇原敬之))

The song for today is “我的親愛” by Leon Lai. This song was very popular back at the time when it was released. It was the Chinese cover version of “もう恋なんてしない” by Noriyuki Makihara (槇原敬之). The direct English translation of the Chinese title is “My love”.

The lyrics of the song area bout love. The protagonist said that he still misses her warm love. When the sky is dark, it will go into his dream. He is slowly getting lonely, and yet he still hasn’t found a replacement. He still loves her, and wishes that she will comeback without him saying anything. Who would understand him as he tries to cover up his loneliness? He let sadness, depression and obsession carried to now. He understands that reality is reality and that there are always accidently. Who would have thought that he no longer knows how to love others? So she had make up her mind not accompanying him anymore? If he thought of her at night, could they start again? So she think this isn’t anything? Does she knows that he is gazing at the sea by himself again? Sayonara o Sayonara o (note, sayonara is Japanese, meaning good bye). He felt that perhaps it needs to be busy to felt like a modern love. He can’t hide that he hasn’t let go yet, but when he keep loving her she still ignoring him. Sayonara o Sayonara o, why he felt that there are still some love in his heart. She will never change in his heart and remain as his love. Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the original Japanese version as usual for comparison.

27th Aug 2014 (跳飛機 – Leo Ku)

The song for today is “跳飛機” by Leo Ku. The English translation of the title is “Hopscotch”, though if translated directly into English it is “Jump aeroplane” (the lyrics play with words, so it is more related to plane then hopscotch).

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that it is the end of the season, and bugs start to fly. Air pressure is lower and the clouds float away. Only he is still deep in love with her, but he lacks the courage to fly so he has to move away. He felt that he is trapped in an empty plane, unable to go forward or backward but stuck at 3000 km altitude. She is not willing to love him, but also not willing to let him go. If he could get rid of her first, then it would be like jumping out of a plane. Even if he forgot how to fly he still needs to leave her. Just pretend that he forgot he worried about dying and just take a deep breath. She will never believe that he can fly and not believe he will fly. But he knows that he could let her go. Even if he forgot how to fly he still needs to leave her. Just pretend that he forgot he worried about dying and just take a deep breath. She will never believe that he can fly and not worry that he will fall to dead. Let him fly and not think of her. Love to the end, and there is no turning back. So painful that he started to cry; how many more kilometre could he last? The burden is too heavy, and there is too little oxygen; if he could get rid of her first, then it would be like jumping off from a plane. Hope you will like the song.

26th Aug 2014 (綿綿 – Eason Chan)

The song for today is “綿綿” by Eason Chan. This is requested by a reader, and it is also one of the songs that I often listen. I didn’t like this song when I first it many many years ago, back then I enjoyed songs with fast tempo. But slowly as I grow up, I enjoyed the slow tempo more, nowadays I much prefer slow tempo then fast tempo. So around 6-7 years ago, when I heard this song again, I just fall in love with it. Eason express the sorrow of the song with a minimal climax, which I think is something that is very hard to do, but he did it very well. Anyway, back to the title, the direct English translation of the title is “Soft soft”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that he will probably never going to hug her again. Perhaps her body weight will bring him to dream. In the past, as he didn’t want to not show up at their date, he will try his best even if he was sick. Until which day would he think back and realised that it was stupid? Perhaps they will not spend their night together. Sit until the coffee turn sour, and became so hard to drink. In the past, he was willing to scarify his own time for her, even not resting. They talked about the time when it rained so heavily that water leak through her windows. He never loved her softly, but sadly that he likes to think about the past, especially the album that make him felt sad. He never loved her, but always willing to give to anyone. He never paid the attention to count how many hairs broke off in his sleep on a rainy summer day. Perhaps they will not hug again. Wait until they both get old, they toke a slow walk. The past just felt like a feather. Talked about the pain deep in their heart, it is like talking to himself about the faults other made, how nice. He never loved her, he just likes to fight bloodily with a heart and the like to think of that cigarette that he never managed to finish. He never loved her, he just enjoy meeting a celebrity. He never paid the attention to count how many hairs broke off in his sleep on a rainy summer day. Hope you will like the song.

25th Aug 2014 (戰場上的快樂聖誕 – Aaron Kwok)

The song for today is “戰場上的快樂聖誕” by Aaron Kwok. Personally I don’t like this song too much as I believe fast pace songs is much more suitable for Aaron, but nevertheless this song was quite popular back in the 90’s. The direct English translation of the title is “Christmas on the battlefield”.

The lyrics of the song are about peace. The protagonist said that when he was talking to his friends, they talk about their relationship. They found it interesting as there were happiness, pain and loneliness. When they talked about Christmas, the fun begins. They challenged each other and use their brain to try to win. “I wish you I wish you I wish you Merry Christmas”. Reduce the urge for war, couldn’t we sing Christmas carols in this holiday? “I wish you I wish you I wish you Merry Christmas”, these are all his true words, wishes that you could hear it. He still thinks of the poems that he wrote when he was no body. He loves Christmas as he like to laugh and dream. The time past had past, even sung those songs again we don’t get the same feeling. “I wish you I wish you I wish you Merry Christmas”, could we stop fighting each other during this holiday? “I wish you I wish you I wish you Merry Christmas”, he wishes that you could think about your past and stop fighting for once. “I wish you I wish you I wish you Merry Christmas”. Hope you will like the song.

24th Aug 2014 (酒杯敲鋼琴 – Joe Tay (Joe Cheng 鄭敬基) and Sarah Wong (黃寶欣) / 酒杯再敲琴 – Joe Tay (鄭敬基), Shimica Castro Wong (黃宇希) and Chun Tung Yu (余震東)/ 酒杯敲你頭 – Andrew Lam (林敏聰)/Lady Valentine – Monte Kristo)

The song for today is “酒杯敲鋼琴” by Joe Tay (Joe Cheng 鄭敬基) and Sarah Wong (黃寶欣). This is Joe's classic. This song is the Chinese cover version of "Lady Valentine" by Monte Kristo. This song was suggested by a fellow reader yesterday, coincidentally I heard the 2014 version ("酒杯再敲琴", translated as "Wine glass hit the piano again") of this song yesterday, so I guess I really should talk about it today. The 2014 version is sing by Joe, featuring Shimica Castro Wong (黃宇希) and Chun Tung Yu (余震東). The direct English translation of the title is “Wine glass hit the piano”. There is a funny version call “酒杯敲你頭” (“Wine glass hit your head”), the lyrics of this version was written by Andrew Lam (林敏聰), a very famous lyrics writer who written many hit songs in the 80’s and 90’s. The funny version was sung by Andrew as well (though from memory it should be sung with Eric Tsang (曾志偉) as well, as they used to host a funny show together on ATV, but YouTube only got Andrew’s solo version, so maybe I remember wrong).

The lyrics of “酒杯敲鋼琴” is about the male protagonist feeling sad and not feeling to talk about it, his girlfriend feels that this is going to affect their relationship. The lyrics sung by Joe would be marked by M:, by Sarah with F: and when they sung together, T:. T: Wine glass hit the piano. M: In my heart, there are many dreams. I wanted to make them real, but it felt like I am just keep making the wrong turn. No matter what I do, I just can’t find a way. T: Wine glass hit the piano. M: My heart is dull. F: Your heart is dull. M: Wanted you to save me. T: Wine glass hit the piano. M: My heart is dull. F: Your heart is dull. M: But I accepted it alone, hiding all my feelings. F: Not speaking make you feel tired. You face is like a ultra-heavy wooden ship. The low tone blues are locking your eyebrow. T: Wine glass hit the piano. F: You heart is singing alone; the sky is already darken. Could two people sing together, perhaps in the future? M: Stay away, let me be, let me cry. I’m a man, wouldn’t let you see me cry. T: Tonight is quiet, staying in lonely street. M: Wanted someone to support me, but I pretended to hate to ask for help as I am worry that others will laugh at me so I can only hide. F: Know that you are sad as you lean on my back. My lover is now like a rock, not willing to talk and close the door to the heart.

Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the 2014 version, the funny version and the original English version below just so that you can feel how a song could evolve.

23rd Aug 2014 (祗想一生跟你走 – Jacky Cheung)

The song for today is “祗想一生跟你走” by Jacky Cheung. This song has been looping in my head many times today, so I decided to write about it here today. This song was very popular back in the early 90’s, even today, it is one of Jacky’s classic. Many people knows the lyrics and can sing along when the melody played. The direct English translation of the title is “Only wanted to go with you”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said they had the best meet up, and they had been through a lot together. They got drunk together, and at the end he realised he can’t live without her. Every time when she complain, it is like he doesn’t know how to treat her tenderly. He wanted her to stop telling him that they have broke up already, because it felt like she doesn’t think he got hurt enough. But she didn’t bring away everything in their dream. He let her go, but why she couldn’t see it through? He wishes that she will not forget their past, if she can do that he will cry and wishing to leave with her. Even if everything changes and where ever she wanted to go, he just doesn’t wanted to be left behind alone. ? He wishes that she will not forget their past, if she can do that he will cry and wishing to leave with her. In his mind and in his memory, she is a person that he can’t miss. Hope you will like the song.

22nd Aug 2014 (餘情未了 – K.C. Lee (李國祥)/夢から夢へ – Chage and Aska)

The song for today is “餘情未了” by K.C. Lee (李國祥). He was quite famous back in the early 90’s. This song is a cover version of the Japanese song “夢から夢へ” by CHAGE and ASKA. The direct English translation of the title is “Remaining love hasn’t end”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist opened his eyes which he just rubbed dry, he saw that there are only wind and sea here. Let him to tell her quietly that he still look forward to their future. The sensation of hug, who would worry about the changes that we face in life. Quietly recorded this and not let the rest of the world found out. Remaining love hasn’t ended, and it goes fore and back. He wouldn’t change it even if he got the chance to go back. Helplessly, they departed but haven’t let go. Separated, wandering and met again; met but then separated again. Can’t catch it, just lie life and that’s the love you gave him. Shouldn’t have, and really shouldn’t have; said to let go, but how could he let go. He just couldn’t too her that they will be separated forever. After being cooled down from their passionate love,  she will lightly wave her hand. Just let him remember her once again, see each other again and love again. Hope you will enjoy the song. I have linked to the original Japanese version for comparison.

21st Aug 2014 (日出時讓戀愛終結 – Jacky Cheung)

The song for today is “日出時讓戀愛終結” by Jacky Cheung. This song was popular back in the 90’s. The direct English translation of the title is “Let the love ends when the sun rises”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. “You are still sleeping when the sun slowly rises; write the last paper note. I come to see you, to found the one in my dream. I slowly turn around and wipe everything. There is nothing to say and I quietly drove the car. Thought about the past, there were smiles with tears. I promised you that we will go through each morning together. I can’t hold my tears any longer when I thought about this. It is so sad in this car cabin. I hope that you will treasure your future from today. There is no need to wait for me to come back. I can’t break through as the colour of the sky is still dull. It is because the two hearts that are in love have no future. Betrayed you, even that it was wrong. The car has gone a long way, and our past is covered by the sun rise. I hope that you wouldn’t feel you can’t accept it when you realised that you have lost me. Everything was so routine, there is nothing to say between us, when I thought of this, I cried again. It is so sad in this car cabin. I hope that you will treasure your future from today. There is no need to wait for me to come back. Looking through the skyline, the colour of the sky is still dull. It is because the two hearts that are in love have no future. Betrayed you, even that it was wrong. Heart broken and our past are covered by the sun rise.

20th Aug 2014 (石頭記 – Tat Ming Pair)

The song for today is “石頭記” by Tat Ming Pair (達明一派). This song is one of their iconic songs. It was a big hit back in the late 80’s. The direct English translation of the title is “The Story of the stone”.

The lyrics of the song are about life, and they are a bit abstract so sometime it doesn’t seems to make too much sense after translation. The protagonist said that he is sick of watching the wind blow on the snow; it got thicker, shoes broken and the road got wet. Then gazing at the mountain far away, the wind blow on the weak willow; he once enjoyed the scenery alone, when he was sick and weak. Suddenly, he heard that music lightly float into his ears; he dance randomly, and his cloths got untidy. He wanted to dump his thought, but they are so fake that it feels so real. In the old study room, this old dreams of his keeps recurring. He wanted to drink down the alcohol with the hard decision, but who would have thought that it would leave a scar. Counting bit by bit, but at the end it differ by so much. Change and turn, and become a new relationship. Wanted to get married, but after the warm spring, it changes. Real and fake, we realised that sadness, happiness, grace and hatred are all fake. Hopefully you will enjoy the song.
