The song for today is “有隻雀仔” by Fiona Sit. This song is in reference to the Chinese version of “London Bridge is falling down” which is called “有隻雀仔跌落水” (A bird fallen into the water). The lyrics of the Chinese version of “London Bridge is falling down” is just about a bird fallen into the water and it was washed away by the water current (quite dark actually, considering that it is a nursery rhyme). The direct English translation of Fiona’s song is “A bird”.

The lyrics of the song are in reference to “有隻雀仔跌落水”, in this song though, it expended on why the bird fallen into the water. It also uses the bird fallen into the water as a metaphor of losing our dream. But instead of the bird dying, the bird will survive and learn how to swimming, implying that even when situation changes, we can still achieve what we wanted under this new condition. It said: “A rainy day, it rained for seven night straight and become a flood. Everyone in the city got washed away. Got tired and landed in the forest, but still got drifted away by the current. Under the flow, under the flood, already out of strength to chase the dreams from the childhood. Poor in my childhood but gazed up and wanted to travel far to see the biggest bird nest. Recently I have discovered this blog http://blog.roodo.com/muzikland, the author of the blog, Muzikland, apparently also run a music show on an online radio station in Hong Kong. The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist wishing that her ex-boyfriend could be there with her. At the time this song was released, Jenny’s husband passes away in an accident. The lyrics of the song could also be interpreted as someone leaving your side, so Jenny singing this song at a time like that makes it very powerful and touching. Due to the popularity of the song, Fei Fei later sung the mandarin version “Love is over”. As the song was so popular, it was also turned in Cantonese. There were two versions, one called “再度孤獨” by Jenny Tseng (甄妮) the other is “逝去的愛” by Anita Mui. Today I will only focus on Anita’s version, I might talk about the other version in the coming days. The direct English translation of anita’s version is “Love is over”.

If I remembered correctly, this song was released in the early 2000, I remembered I really like Gigi’s songs, and I pretty much bought every album that was released. Back then, there were no mp3 or YouTube, so every album that I bought I loop them many times and listen to all songs on it just so that it would worth my money :p
